Maame Birago Marfo, a Ghanaian life coach, has traveled extensively and gained valuable experiences. She recently shared her insights on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Gh show with DJ Nyaami.

Based in Dansoman, Accra, Maame Birago reflected on her journey from Tech Campus to Accra in 2007, where she began shaping her career. She highlighted that she works with one of the biggest insurance companies in Ghana, which employs doctors, nurses, and other health professionals—though it is not a hospital.

According to her, many Ghanaians compare their lives to the Western world without fully understanding what they seek. Life abroad may offer certain freedoms and conveniences, but in Ghana, one can also build a fulfilling life depending on their choices and mindset.

Maame Birago emphasized that wealth and success are not guaranteed abroad. Many people assume that moving overseas will automatically lead to a better life, but some fail despite the opportunities available. On the other hand, some individuals have thrived in Ghana by making smart financial decisions and seizing opportunities.

She explained that in foreign countries, time is money, and working multiple jobs is often necessary to sustain a decent lifestyle. While abroad, it is common to work long hours and manage multiple responsibilities. However, in Ghana, individuals can also build wealth with the right approach and mindset.

Success is not just about working hard but working smart. Those who manage their time wisely and take advantage of opportunities often become the wealthiest. Maame Birago advised young people to think critically about their career paths and financial decisions.

She also pointed out that some people in Ghana claim there are no opportunities, but in reality, they might just be looking in the wrong places. Young individuals with expensive tastes may feel that Ghana lacks financial potential simply because they do not see immediate returns in their preferred industries.

One of her biggest regrets was not engaging in side hustles earlier in her career. In her early years, she focused solely on her job, believing the small income she earned was sufficient. However, with experience, she now realizes that there is more money in the informal sector than in the formal sector.

She noted that many people who combined their office jobs with side businesses are now thriving. She particularly highlighted the booming market for children’s items, such as clothing and tablets, since children outgrow their belongings quickly. By leveraging a connection with Accra Central suppliers, she was able to advertise products, arrange deliveries, and earn profits—all without physically handling stock.

This method of passive income allowed her to make more than a regular salary, proving that financial success comes from thinking strategically rather than just working harder.

Maame Birago also spoke about the changing mindset towards parenting. In the past, children were discouraged from pursuing sports, but today, parents encourage their children to play football and explore their talents. Parenting plays a crucial role in shaping children’s futures, and broken homes can have lasting effects on a child’s development.

She stressed the importance of self-belief and not letting society dictate one’s success. Many people fear failure due to societal judgment, but she encouraged individuals to pursue their goals regardless of public opinion.

Maame Birago’s story is a testament to the fact that opportunities exist everywhere, but it takes the right mindset to recognize and seize them.
