Eugene Reflects on His Journey Abroad: From Malta to Germany in Search of a Better Future

Eugene’s journey abroad began with the support of people he connected with in Malta.

He was fortunate to find individuals who helped him secure a job and start a new life.

Eugene previously had an interview with us, where he shared his life and experiences in Malta before moving to Germany.

He reflected on the challenges, opportunities, and sacrifices he made as he pursued a better life for himself and his family.
From not being able to secure a job in Malta but with the help of connections to navigating life as a migrant in Germany, Eugene’s story is one of resilience and determination.

Speaking on Daily Hustle Worldwide with SVTV Africa’s CEO and founder, DJ Nyaami, Eugene shared his experiences and challenges abroad.

“When I came to Malta, I could travel freely to France. But I was advised to stay home after work until my documents were ready. Now in Germany, I’ve been told to avoid mingling with friends because of strict controls,” Eugene revealed.

Eugene spoke candidly about the struggles faced by other nationals in Europe, emphasizing how vital connections are for finding jobs.

“Other nationals find it difficult to get jobs because they don’t have connections. If I knew someone in Italy, I’d find a way to move there and get legal documents,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Eugene is optimistic. He reflects on his sacrifice, saying,

“I left my 5,000 GHC salary job as a procurement officer in Ghana to seek greener pastures abroad. My family is happy now because I can support them better. I sacrificed everything for their prosperity.

Eugene highlighted how his current job in Germany has allowed him to provide for his family in ways he couldn’t before.

“Two hours of work in Germany pays far more than what I earned back home. My daughter, who has completed high school, can now attend university(UPSA) because of my job abroad. If I had stayed in Ghana, it would have been difficult to afford her education.”

However, Eugene admits that the journey hasn’t been easy. He barely speaks German (Deutsch) and is currently attending a language school.

He advised others looking to move to Europe:

“If you want to come, I’d suggest going to Italy or Spain. It’s easier to get legal documents there. And in Germany, it’s hard to find office jobs – most migrants end up as cleaners.”

Eugene also shared advice for those living abroad:

“If you’re sharing accommodation with roommates, contribute financially. Support each other to avoid unnecessary conflict.”

Reflecting on his journey from Malta to Germany, Eugene remains hopeful and determined.

“I traveled to sacrifice everything for my family. This is all for their benefit. If I had connections in Italy, I’d go there for legal documents, but for now, I’ll make the best out of what I have.”
