Soon Ataa discovered she was pregnant. however, as their situation set in, her boyfriend faced limited job opportunities in Turkey. He left in search of a more stable future, intending to go to Greece by sea, where he believed they would have better chances.

Despite her growing pregnancy, Ataa insisted on accompanying him. They set out together to cross the Aegean Sea, in pursuit of a brighter tomorrow.

“I knew we had to travel by sea and I wasn’t scared. I even tried convincing my brother to come with us but he refused. I didn’t face any challenges in the forest. There were many pregnant women and kids on board.

We were rescued while on the sea and brought to camp. That was where I gave birth. I’ve received financial support from the government since I got here,” she narrated.
