Nana Quame, a prominent figure in Ghana’s highlife music scene, has expressed his feelings of underappreciation.

In a chat with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, Nana Quame stated that most Ghanaians value the contributions of foreign artists more than those of local musicians. He believes that despite his efforts and dedication to the music industry, the recognition he receives does not match the talent and hard work he has put into his craft.

Quame’s comments highlight a broader concern regarding the promotion of local talent in a landscape where international acts often overshadow homegrown artists.

“I don’t think I’m appreciated enough. Ghanaians appreciate foreigners more and it goes beyond the music industry. Look at our funerals; we even celebrate the dead more than the living.”

Reflecting on his impressive two-decade journey in the music industry, Nana Quame emphasized how profoundly it transformed his life on multiple levels. He shared that his hit single, “waye waye,” was particularly pivotal in his career, as it resonated with fans and significantly boosted his financial success.

This track marked a turning point for him, propelling him to new heights within the industry and establishing him as a prominent figure in the music scene.
