Nodia, a Jamaican living in Canada shared her story disclosing that her parents abandoned her while another family member raped her at the age of 13.

In an interview on SVTV International, Nodia mentioned that she lived with her mother after her father abandoned her. However, it was not long until her mother also abandoned her. Nodia believes her mother deserted her because she resembles her father.

“I’m not sure why my father abandoned me. I looked so much like my father, so maybe she abandoned me because of that. It is just my bad luck to be abandoned by both of them. I had to look after myself at age 9 or 10. It was a very hard life for me.

I was raped at 13 by a family member. Someone who could have helped to nurture me. I didn’t get much education because my grandmother couldn’t do more than she did.”

According to Nodia, she fled from home at 16 to seek shelter because there was no place to live. Besides the abuse at home, she suffered marital abuse for 15 years. Eventually, Nodia left Jamaica for a change, “and also I was unhappy at my job.”

Nodia mentioned that her father, who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s reached out to her two months ago after 40 years.
