US-based Ghanaian Odehyieba has stated that, unlike the traditional African marriage values, an African man living in the US must be submissive to their wives to preserve their marriage.
In an SVTV Africa interview with DJ Nyaami, Odehyieba mentioned that the laws in the US favour women. As a result, some African women abuse these laws to their advantage and force men to become the women in the marriage.
“It is either you concede defeat and become the woman of the house for your marriage to succeed. Your marriage will collapse if you bring the traditional Ghanaian marriage values here. You cannot be the man of the house and maintain a happy marriage. Some men who bring their wives from Africa try to profit from them.
Their friends advise them on how the system works. The wife reports husband and he is kicked out of the house. They apply for child support, and he is forced to pay. That is the major problem among African couples in the US. So many women here are single mothers,” he stated.
According to Odehyieba, some African men intentionally bring an African woman to the US to profit off of them. He mentioned that these men intentionally keep them in the dark about how the system works abroad to make them work to their benefit.
