France-based Ghanaian Prince Asante revealed that he sold his taxi to sponsor his trip abroad because he could not save up to GHS500 annually.

In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV AFRICA, Mr Asante indicated that with his wife and kids to cater to, he could not save up to GHS500 yearly. As a result, he decided to travel abroad for better job opportunities.

Prince sold his taxi for GHS6000 and topped it up to start a visa process with a travel agent. However, the agent was out of touch for over a year.

“I went to his office at dawn one morning and waited till he came. He took me to the embassy two days later, and we got the visa within three days. The agent charged GHS12,000. My mother and siblings helped me secure the flight ticket.

Life in Ghana was tough. I couldn’t even save GHS500 at the end of the year. I’d have had to get a loan if you asked me for GHS500. It was all hand-to-mouth. It doesn’t pay much,” Prince said.

The father of three has been in France for about ten years and has not visited Ghana yet. He acknowledged that life is not as easy in France as he anticipated, but he believes it is better than in Ghana.
