Netherlands-based Ghanaian Kofi Gharbin has stated that the tradition of paying the bride price is absurd.
In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Kofi mentioned that it is preposterous for only men to pay for a lady just because she is ready for marriage. According to him, it does not make sense.
“I had a Ghanaian girlfriend at the time, and I told her that if we break up, I won’t date a Ghanaian lady again. I don’t like how customary marriage is done.
I don’t understand why I must pay my woman’s family because they raised her. Was I not raised? Our customary marriage is a no-go area for me. It is nonsense to me. If I were not from a good home, would your daughter choose to stay with me,” he said on SVTV AFRICA.
According to Mr Happiness, as he is known on TikTok, there should be no form of payment in marriage. He believes the family from both parties must gather, and bless the couple.
Moreover, Kofi mentioned that he made a promise to himself to not give birth in Ghana. Currently, Kofi Gharbin has two boys with two women from Denmark and Netherlands.
