Popular Ghanaian singer, Rudolph Nana Kwame, known in showbiz as Nasty, has disclosed that he has been a drug addict for 22 years and tells the story of how it all began.

According to him, most Boys’ Schools in Ghana are drug-infested. Nasty attended Adisadel College, where he started as a drug peddler and eventually started using. In an exclusive interview on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Nasty revealed that he began with cigarettes and ‘graduated’ to more addictive drugs.

“It started from Adisco. I won’t only mention Adisco but all the boys’ schools. It all began with cigarettes. Eventually, you’d need something stronger, and then you try weed. By the time I realized, I was a captive (to it).

I was a baron. I used to package it for people to travel along with. I wasn’t using it at the time. It was all greed. One time, I sent the package to someone, and he asked me to taste it first. The next day, I wanted to try it again. I was in SHS 3. That was when I became addicted,” he recounted.

The ‘Wo Sisi Ye Wo Ya’ singer stated that drug addiction is spiritually inclined because of the lack of control addicts have over it. Moreover, Nasty advised the youth to avoid drugs for their safety.

“It will make you more active, but it will blindfold you and introduce a new world. (A new world) beyond control. It is spiritually captive. I’m telling you what I feel and what it is. People come back from rehab, and after two years, they go back into drugs. I’ve been a drug addict for 22 years. I had the money back then, and it wasn’t even from the music.”

Speaking on rehab, Nasty mentioned that his family has taken him to several rehabilitation centres in Ghana, but it didn’t help. According to him, he is alive because he knows his limits, and “I eat good food. I know when I’m getting sick. I’m focused.”

The hitmaker indicated that rehab is not a hundred per cent solution for drug addicts. He stated that the only solution is self-control.

Nasty was a part of the music group Lifeline Family with hipline greats like T-Blaze, Yogie Doggy, and Jay Dee, among others. He worked with Kontihene, Daasebre, Yoogie Doggy, etc.
