Seventeen members of the Agona Royal Family who passed on between 2005 and 2020 are to be buried today, November 23, 2022.

These bodies were kept in the morgue for almost two decades because of unsettled chieftaincy disputes. According to a report by a Kumasi-based reporter, the Royal Family failed to perform funeral rites for deceased family members because a chief had not been enstooled yet.

Speaking on SVTV Africa, the reporter, Nana Appiah, stated that the family finally agreed to perform the funeral rites for the seventeen deceased family members two months ago.

The mortuary fee billed to the family was GHS30,000. Nana Appiah added that the Tafo Chief instructed each home situated on the Tafo land area must pay GHS100 to settle the fee.

“Many people paid including, the shops at Magazine. But when they had to make the payment, Nana could not account for the monies paid. So the funeral had to be postponed until today, November 23,” he told DJ Nyaami.

Their funeral ceremony is currently ongoing at the Tafo Community Centre. The Chief of Tafo Traditional Council, led by Nana Agyin Frimpong, has ordered all shops within the Tafo Municipality to remain closed.
