Togolese based in Ghana, Fati has revealed that she is aware that prostitution is illegal and sinful, but it is a temporary avenue to make money.
In a chat on SVTV Africa, Fati mentioned that her mother is unaware of the job she is into, but she often supports her financially. The 20-year-old came to Ghana to live with an auntie who, according to Fati, mistreated her.
“I couldn’t rest at my auntie’s house, and she didn’t give me food even though she cooked every day. I complained about it, and she said I was not her child, so I decided to leave her house.
I asked for transport fare back to Togo, and she denied too. I came here to live with a friend for a short while. I started doing sex work to pay for my rent, save up and start a business. I’ve been doing it for less than a year,” she told DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa.
Speaking on the savings, Fati noted that she hasn’t got a lot because she caters to her mother’s needs as well. Moreover, she mentioned her charges and disclosed that her mother thinks she makes money off her auntie’s job.
“I charge GHS200 per client. My mother does not know that I do sex work. She thinks I’m still with my auntie, and my auntie has not informed her yet. I know prostitution is not good, so I don’t want my mom to do it,” she added.
Fati indicated that she does not want to do sex work for long and would quit when she makes enough money to start a viable business.
