Blind old lady, Portia Essah was sent to an eye specialist for the first time in 25 years through the help of SVTV Africa Foundation.

However, after consultation with the doctors, they disclosed that it is too late for anything to be done. Adding that if she has visited the clinic in the initial stages, she may not have lost her sight completely.

Speaking on SVTV Africa, Dr Kingsley Herdonu stated that she is suffering from a condition known as staphyloma; where the cornea becomes opaque, making it impossible for light to travel into the retina of the eye.

Madam Portia Essah was given some medication to help reduce the pain. She also received an amount of GHs2,000 from gospel singer SP Kofi Sarpong and other contributors.

Madam Essah was appreciative of everything she had received from SVTV Africa Foundation and also “God bless those who gave me this money. May they never lack anything.”

During SVTV Africa’s tour of the Central Region, they visited Saakye in Wassa Atobiase where the crew met Madam Essah. Due to her condition, the foundation donated some food items and promised to get her eye screened.
