Former Hearts of Oak midfielder, Charles Allotey has revealed that the current hearts team is not performing because they have stopped “bathing” their players.

Charles Allotey, who was a member of the ‘64 battalion’ that won the CAF Champions League and Super Cup in the year 2000, said before a player would be selected to play for Hearts of Oak during their time, he had to be an extraordinary player.

This he said has change, noting that now the club recruits through justifiers so most of them don’t qualify to play for the team.

Speaking to Onua Sports, Charles Allotey said Accra Hearts of Oak was built on the traditional way, it is a family thing so every ritual that the family does to prosper must continue but must not be abolished.

Bibioo, as he was called by fans, said the team is now run as a one-man club so they have stopped going to Sualabaa, Newtown and all the places they go to say prayers.

He revealed that “before a player is ushered into the Hearts of Oak team you are immersed in water at a place called Majide, after initiation you are taken to the dressing room to pick your jersey number and that is the number you would use throughout your stay at Hearts”.

He said as far as he knows most hearts players were picked from Auroras and they were better as compared to players that are recruited through justifiers as they are doing now.

The once continental club masters are ninth on the suspended Ghana premier league table with 21 points.

Charles Allotey, who played for the national U-17 and the Black Stars is now the coach of Shalom FC, a third division side in Cape Coast, has the ambition of coaching the Phobians (Accra Hearts of Oak) in future.
