Renowned Broadcaster, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana has described the continuous closure of Churches as an unfair treatment to Pastors in Ghana who are yearning to win more souls for God.

President Akufo-Addo on March 15, 2020, in a televised broadcast by Executive Instrument declared the ban on all public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, church activities, and other related events as part of measures to stop the spread of coronavirus in the country.

“All public gatherings, including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, sporting events and religious activities, such as services in churches and mosques, have been suspended for the next four (4) weeks. Private burials are permitted, but with limited numbers, not exceeding twenty-five (25) in attendance”, he disclosed.

However, markets across the country have been allowed to operate with strict adherence to social distancing protocols.

Reacting to this move, Abeiku Santa said if markets have been opened and operating, it’s only fair that Churches are opened too because Churches are the most disciplined places where social distancing protocols can be observed.

He said like the markets and other businesses were opened after the people complained, it’s very necessary for the churches to also be opened and made to endure social distancing.

“Is it fair that Churches have not been opened? If we look at the imposition of restriction ie lockdown, its been two weeks since bringing an end to it and as result markets have been opened, businesses have also resumed work. Market women wept because of the toll the lockdown had on them and markets were opened but Pastors have been quiet so I’m talking for the church. So If we have allowed for markets to be opened why are churches not opened in Ghana.”
