While it takes some artistes a good number of years to blow, lucky ones such as Afrobeat artiste Wendy Shay are able to make it in a short space of time.
In just two years, Wendy Shay, real name Wendy Addo has earned herself a place at the ‘table of men’ in the music industry and can be counted among the country’s current top artistes.

And that is not all, the two years has also seen a turning point in her life where she says she has matured and learnt good lessons since she hit the limelight.

She made these revelations in an interview with Dr Cann on Happy FM’s Showbiz Xtra Saturday, June 6, 2020 to mark her second anniversary in muisic.

Wendy Shay said some of the lessons she has learnt are dressing to suit occasions and being emotionally intelligent.

Giving instances from which she derived these lessons, she touched on her infamous answer to MzGee’s question ‘Who is Wendy Shay” during an interview saying “I was impatient during the interview with MzGee, and my answer didn’t go down well. This taught me how to be emotionally intelligent.

Touching on the backlash she received for an outfit she wore when she joined colleague celebs to pay a visit to former president John Agyekum Kufuor last year, she said “also, I have learnt to dress to suit the occasion. I now know what dress to wear to where”, she told Dr Cann.

Moving from the lessons she has learnt, the Stevie Wonder singer, pointed there are a number of things that should be put right to see the Ghanaian music industry grow.

“Most female musicians are always sidelined. For instance, during shows, while there are about 15 male artistes on the bill, you will find only one or two females featuring on the event and that is not fair.

“Also, our music is always downloaded free of charge and measures must be put in place to stop that. This prevent us from making financial gains for our hard work” she said.

She went on to thank her record label, Ruff Town Records for making her a star within just two years.

“Ruff Town Records has done very well for me and I owe them a lot. I have achieved so much within two years and I can boldly say I can be counted among the top three musicians currently in Ghana.

“I don’t think I would have gotten this far without the help of Ruff Town Records” she added
