There is growing fear of a potential spread of Covid-19 at Ajumako Entumbil in the Central Region, after some 21 individuals who have been exposed to the virus, have refused to observe a mandatory self-isolation directive.

The individuals were identified by a Covid-19 team in the Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam District during a contact tracing exercise about a week ago, after a resident in the community tested positive for the virus.

The patient has since been quarantined at a health facility and is responding to treatment.

Though test results of the 21 contacts are yet to be known, there is anxiety among the chiefs and people of the Ajumako Entumbil community as the individuals are seen mingling with town folks putting lives in jeopardy.

A sub-chief of the area, Tufohene Nana Kwaw Foso III said: “The situation is very dire. We were told by the District Chief Executive that 21 persons have been identified and their samples have been taken. But it appears enough has not been done to keep us safe. The situation needs urgent attention.”

Ajumako Entumbil Assemblyman, Nicholas Arthur, is appealing to health officials for assistance as concerns of a possible disaster grow.

“These people have been with us for close to a week now and no one is talking to us. There is growing fear and panic around and the situation could spell doom in the coming days,” the worried assemblyman said.

Meanwhile, calls by Dailymailgh.com to the acting District Director of Health, Esther Amankwah for comments went unanswered.

Ten districts including the Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam have recorded Covid-19 cases in the Central Region.

The region is among 13 out of 16 in Ghana with a total of 3,091 Covid-19 cases. The region’s case count currently stands at 50
